Zen Tea Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Zen Tea Restaurant on SongJiang Road feels like entering a quiet retreat tucked away amidst the city’s rhythm. The calm, understated décor and gentle flow of patrons create a serene pace that encourages long, leisurely meals and thoughtful conversation. Perched on the second floor, accessible by elevator, the space invites you to settle in and slow down, away from the buzz below.
Here, vegetarian cuisine is treated with a careful artistry that makes each dish feel like a small celebration of flavor and texture rather than just a meal. The kitchen’s mindful approach to ingredients and seasonings sparks curiosity — from delicate dumplings that surprise the palate to bowls of velvety taro porridge and crisp, vibrant vegetables prepared with a subtle complexity. There is a quiet generosity in the portions that encourages sharing, discovery, and perhaps ordering just one more dish to uncover another layer of creativity.
The mood at Zen Tea is contemplative yet welcoming, enhanced by attentive service that feels genuine rather than performative. Guests often find themselves relaxed by the absence of rushed dining, with the freedom to linger over a pot of Pu’er tea, soaking in the calm and appreciating the nuanced play of traditional flavors reimagined in vegetarian form. Even for those who usually seek meat or heavy sauces, this is a place where plant-based cooking transcends expectation — revealing something soulful, satisfying, and quietly memorable.
In this understated corner of Zhongshan District, Zen Tea Restaurant offers more than just food — it provides a gentle pause, an experience shaped by a thoughtful balance of ambience, taste, and care.

a zen styled vegetarian place... The food was tasty and of high quality. I had the set meal for one person, which came with a decent portion size. However, if you eat like a horse, you might need to order extra dishes.

Hands down the best vegan experience I’ve ever had. I was honestly a bit nervous about the flavor, but everything completely blew me away. The pumpkin in orange sauce was a dream, the tofu (which they kindly made eggless for me) was perfect, the tempura mushrooms were next level, and even the rice, finally, rice in Taiwan that wasn’t bland! Every single dish went above my expectations. I genuinely want to eat here every day, and I don’t say that often. I know the photo I took doesn’t do it justice (it was a quick shot), but trust me: flavor-wise, this place is sublime. If you’re vegan and in Taipei, do yourself a favor and go.

December 2025 Loved everything about this place! The food, dining environment, service, and that there's no dining time limit. Super attentive service - the male server with glasses went above and beyond making sure our dietary restrictions towards refined sugar were accommodated given sugar is such a commonly used ingredient. Loved the taro vermicelli, fried mushroom, steamed and fried stinky tofu, and stirred fried bamboo. The tofu pudding was also lovely and nicely served in a wooden pot. Definitely coming back whenever I visit Taiwan! ***** December 2024 Amazing food! Our party of 10 all thought the food was delicious! My personal favorites were the red tea taro steak (which fooled my father who thought there was pork in there!), taro rice noodles, tofu with tea sauce, and bay cabbage with sesame oil. Service was attentive and truly appreciated the main server, a super thoughtful lady, paying attention to my husband's dietary restrictions making sure to exclude added sugar to the dishes we ordered. The restaurant had a charming interior and also allows large groups to dine without time restrictions unlike many other busy restaurants. There's an elevator to the second floor where the restaurant is so wheelchair accessibility is quite good. Highly recommend this place!!

The mushroom donburi was so bussin. The taste was so vivid that I kept going for more. The portions are generous here. We thought donburi meant it has rice, but actually it doesn’t, so we ordered a bowl of rice to pair it with. The white cabbage and tofu skin was nice too, but the mushroom donburi stole the show for us.

Located on the 2nd floor (with elevator), the place exudes calm and serenity except when the place is full, then conversation becomes impossible. Strictly vegetarian but carnivores will not even notice because the finely crafted dishes are so good . The menu is extensive and guaranteed to satisfy. There are dimsum (yamcha or snack plates) and there are full bodied complicated culinary masterpieces with entrees and main courses, many with parallels in non vegan dishes. Drinks and a whole range of yummy desserts also on the menu.

A very high-ended vegetarian restaurant that was recommended by a friend, and it wasn't disappointed. Many people think vegetarian food would be boring and tasteless, but the dishes we had were so delicious and we were so impressed. You could tell the owner/chef had put a lot of hardwork and thoughts into making those dishes. However, the price is on an expensive side.

Every item we ordered was a hit. As a non-vegetarian, I didn’t feel like there was something missing at all. The salad with tofu was tart and v refreshing - a great appetiser to kick off the meal. The mushroom with egg dish, one of their specialties, was a hit at our table. Reminiscent of the stir fried egg white and crab dishes at Cantonese restaurants except that this was fully vegetarian and very yummy. Would also recommend the tea based tofu and the yam vermicelli soup - especially enjoyable with cold weather. Service was attentive and friendly as well. Wish I could’ve tried more dishes but will definitely stop by again the next time I’m in Taipei.

Really good flavorful vegetarian food! But I would skip the red oil dumpling and gung bao G ding. The runny egg dish (forgot what it’s called) and old tea tofu was exceptionally good! Would definitely come back next time in Taipei. One downside was we were not informed of the minimum spend per person when making reservation.
